The Cyprus Folk Art Museum was founded by a few keen members of the Society of Cypriot Studies in 1936.
It was an effort of volunteers and it continues to work due to their efforts.
The building was a monastery of the 15th century and the old Archbishopic Palace.
Many of the Museum's objects were acquired by donations, others were purchased directly from the villagers or from private collections. Most items come from our occupied areas.
In the Museum's collections there are works of weaving, pottery, embroidery, metalworking, woodcarving, basketry, folk painting, costumes, lace, agricultural tools, weaving tools, etc.
Today there are over 5000 artifacts in the museum.
The Museum's store features representative works of traditional craftsmen, as well as contemporary works inspired by our tradition. You can support the museum by buying your gifts such as books, dvd, postcards, bookmarks, figures, textiles, jewelery and many others.
