It is one of the most important churches in Cyprus.
The fascinating 9th century Byzantine church at Geroskipou has very beautiful frescoes and is built on royal patterns and has five cross-shaped domes. Only two such churches exist on the island.
The church of Agia Paraskevi was built in the 9th century AD. and is kept almost intact in its original form, except for the western wall that was demolished in the 19th century for the erection of an extension. Its uniqueness lies in its frescoes, some of which date back to the 9th century AD. and thus constitute the oldest of the whole of Cyprus. The frescoes of the 15th and 16th centuries are also in relatively good condition.
However, the decoration of the church of Agia Paraskevi does not end in frescoes. In the iconostasis there are excellent 15th century images. The most important, among them, is a famous two-sided image. On one side is the Panagia Odigitria and on the other is the Crucifixion.
