In case you didn't know, the Dasovotanikos garden Athalassa, was designed and installed by the Research branch of the Forestry Division.
Both the design, and the installation took place in two phases and in two different areas separated by road. The two phases were named Dasovotanikos garden A and Dasovotanikos garden B, respectively. The garden Dasovotanikos first settled in 1964-1970 and planted about 100 plants which represent 173 different species. The Dasovotanikos Garden B is an extension of the first. The plants are installed in series and include 600 plants representing 290 different species and subspecies belonging to 167 genera and 79 families.
The Dasovotanikos Garden was founded in 1963-1964 with 3 hectares, which are planted around 200 species of trees and shrubs, while in 1967 the Bank established Clones pine 7 hectares and about 1000 pine trees, and in 1975 with a seed Garden area 7 hectares and about 3000 pine seeds. Other forest of Forest Research Branch experiments is Efkalyptonas with an area of 15 hectares and 75 species of eucalyptus and pine hybrids with an area of 2.5 hectares.
Since 1974, about 40 hectares of the Main State Forest Athalassas entered in the buffer zone. In 1985, in an effort to save the forest from different interventions, approximately 357 hectares were declared a "National Forest Park Athalassa". Part of the Main State Forest Athalassa, in addition to those uses covered by the New General Hospital and the University Campus.
Learn also, that the Athalassa Park is the largest and most important of Nicosia green spaces and actions against pollution and deterioration of the natural environment.
Apart from its primary role as a space of green area, it also offers you other functions such as recreation, aesthetics, sports, environmental education, eco-agrotourism, training etc. The landscape, even during the summer months, will impress, with a vast green veil.
Besides the garden's main function which is forest and crop research, it can also be used also as a picnic area, fishing area, for beekeeping, harvesting plants, firewood and snails collection, bird watching, cycling, as nature trail with over 20 Km. paths, sports area with soccer fields, volleyball and basketball courts and for military exercises. However, if you're a friend of hunting, you should know in advance that it is strictly prohibited. The established planting by schools and organized groups at the Festival of the Tree, contributes significantly to the development of the park !

Starting point: The trail is part of the National Forest Park Athalassa is located southeast of the forest nursery.
Path Length: It occupies an almost flat area of approximately 4.5 hectares.
Hours: You can visit the trail from 07:30 to 14:30, Monday to Friday.
